I'm Lissa, a product designer combining art, design and technology to create objects and experiences.
As someone living with multiple disabilities that are often underrepresented or misunderstood, I use design to raise awareness of the differences in people’s experiences, inequality in the world and social issues.
By using my interests in the punk scene, DIY culture, psychology and disability, I want to make objects that I enjoy and believe in. Almost everyone at some point in their life will face disabling circumstances, so items must be available and affordable.
For disabled people who will be long-term users of these products, however, little is offered to accommodate the differing circumstances. I want my practice to explore how design can be used to integrate access into the wider world. By maintaining functionality while also allowing for fun and interesting visual designs, users can stop feeling ashamed of the products they use, and disability can be destigmatised.
